Above-Ground Pool Safety: Tips Every Family Should Follow
A pool is summer fun, but water safety comes first — especially with children around. A few simple habits prevent almost all accidents.
Never leave kids unsupervised
- Always have an adult watching when children are in or near the pool.
- Even shallow above-ground pools need constant supervision.
Control access
- Remove or secure the ladder when the pool isn’t in use so small children can’t climb in.
- Keep a cover on and consider a barrier around the pool area.
Set clear rules
- No running, no diving into shallow above-ground pools, no pushing.
- Keep a reaching aid nearby and teach kids to swim to the edge.
- Check the water is clear before anyone gets in.
Look after the pool too
- Keep the frame and liner in good repair so walls stay stable.
- Store chemicals (if used) out of children’s reach.
