How to Keep Your Above-Ground Pool Clean All Summer

Clean pool water is mostly about circulation and a little routine. Here’s the simple upkeep that keeps an above-ground pool clear.

Circulate and skim daily

• Run the filter pump several hours a day — still water goes cloudy and green.
• Skim floating leaves and bugs off the surface each day.
• Rinse or replace the pump filter cartridge regularly.

Keep debris out

• Use a cover whenever the pool isn’t in use — it cuts cleaning dramatically.
• Wipe the waterline where oils and dust collect.
• Ask swimmers to rinse feet before getting in.

End-of-season care

• Drain, dry and fold the liner cleanly before storing.
• Store the pump and liner somewhere dry to prevent mildew.
